Facial Flexibility

Facial flexibility is a necessity when it comes to speaking expressively and for speaking the English language.  If you are from another country and English is not your native tongue, you will need to learn to use facial muscles differently than you are probably use to.

Here are some exercises to try:

  1. Smile extra big: then pucker up like a fish.  Hold and repeat x5
  2. Open your mouth as wide as possible and close it into a pucker.  Repeat x5
  3. Tense your entire face (lips tightly closed, nose scrunched up and eyes tightly shut).  Hold for five seconds and relax.

Now use exaggerated mouth movements while speaking a simple sentence.  Not only will facial expressiveness improve but also diction, resonance and loudness.
